Mischief Makin' is my first studio album consisting of eight songs that I wrote and produced between 2016 (The Mines, Black And White) and 2023 (Run With It, Mischief Makin') and recorded at Wild Sound Studio in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Recording began in the summer of 2022 and was the final mixing was completed in April of 2024 with the assistance of Josh Parlanti (lead Mixing and Recording engineer) and Steve Kaul (Mastering engineer). The drums on "The Mines" were recorded by Broadway drummer Jared Shaw, and the drums to "Don't Cry To Me" and "Educators" were recorded by a friend of mine in Boston. Josh Parlanti can be heard on mandolin in "Run With It" and on banjo in "San Jose," and he assisted in production on "Black And White." The rest of the instruments, for better or for worse, were played by me. The album art was painted by New York based artist and classmate of mine, Kate Whitten. You can check out more of her work here.
"The Mines" was the first song recorded and was based off a demo recording I made at home during Covid in 2020 and almost released (I am glad I didn't, and if you like that song, you should be, too). The coolest part of this song actually comes from a track taken from the demo, namely that of the main harmony starting at 4:06. Here you can find the only voice on the album that is not my own. This is my dad, Bill. We recorded this back at home in 2020, and although he wasn't able to make it out to Minneapolis to re-record it, he sent the original track- which was not recorded to any particular tempo- and we were able to fit it into what we recorded in the studio. Somehow, it aligned with the timing perfectly and we were able to use it.
